Karl Strohmyer passed away Thursday, February 9, 2023 at his home in Cozad at the age of 72. Karl was born on June 25, 1950, in Hokkaido on the island of Otaru, Japan. His favorite memories from his childhood were from times at the beach with family, and with his pet dogs. He came to the United States in 1963 with his mother, Tatsuko Ozaki-Strohmyer, and spent much of his teenage and adult life employed in several factories in the Dawson County area, working to support his mother and younger sister, Tammara. He left school to join the United States Army in 1967, and was stationed in Fort Riley, Kansas, for his Army boot camp. Karl then spent much of his service traveling through Europe, and was discharged from the military in 1973. After he finished his duty with the military, he returned to Cozad, where he met and married the love of his life, Margie Flores Sanchez, on April 28th, 1974. From this union, three sons were born: Jason Daniel, Jeffrey Aaron, and Johnny Lee. Though Karl was met with multiple challenges throughout his life, his true enjoyment and bliss came when he became a grandfather. He showered his grandchildren with all the love, adoration, and affection he possibly could, and was proud of each of them and their achievements. Karl spent most of his retirement attending their numerous activities, working in his yard, and with Margie and his children. Each of his family members will undoubtedly cherish their memories of him, and his sense of humor and love will truly be missed. He was preceded in death by his mother. Survivors include his wife, Margie of Cozad; sons, John, Jeff and his children, Brooklyn Strohmyer and Treyvan Reeser, Jason and wife Kristy and their son Christopher Strohmyer, all of Cozad; sister, Tammy (Gary) Gruber of Taylor, NE; nieces, Trysta (Josh) Asche of Loup city, NE; nephews, Gray Gruber and Gareck Gruber, both of Taylor, NE. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com.
