Larry A. Shindle, 79 of Cozad, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at the Cozad Community Hospital after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born May 15, 1939 to Harry and Agnes (Durbin) Shindle at Lexington, Nebraska. Larry was a simple man, who loved his daughters (who he referred to as the loves of his life), his family, his dogs, and his cars. His hands, endless scrapes and calluses from years of hard work. Larry was a jack of all trades. In his younger years he worked at numerous gas stations, was a police officer, worked for the State and County as a maintainer operator, mechanic, salesman, owned a collection agency, and during his “retirement”, he purchased real estate for rentals. Larry never knew a stranger and treasured his friends. He possessed the prodigious passion for restoring antique cars, engaging in countless hours as he meticulously and flawlessly achieved a monumental showpiece. His love for nature was unwavering as he would patiently watch out his living room window as the birds feasted on seed. Country music was a known enjoyment for Larry. Anyone who joined Larry on an adventure knew they would be serenaded by George Jones, Conway Twitty or the man in black.... and Larry singing along. His girls will miss his laugh, the sparkle in his blue eyes, his joyful whistle in the morning when he woke up and his failed attempts to yodel. Larry is survived by his daughters, Kay (Kyle) Nichols of North Platte, NE and Gale (Paige) Teets of North Platte, NE; four grandsons, Casey (Ashley) Werkmeister, Kyle (Starla) Werkmeister, Jason (Amy) Teets, Andrew (Jennifer) Teets; 13 great-grandchildren; special nieces, Linda Parker and Laurie (Kevin) Alger; a special nephew, Richard (Penny) Parker; his dog Kate and close friends, Eric and Anne Seaman. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Mary Lou Olson, Mabel Jacobson and Judith Parker; one brother, Ronald Shindle and two infant siblings.
