Lorene Helen Pfannenstiel, age 94, a resident of Cozad, Nebraska for forty years, passed away May 12, 2018 at Aladdin Assisted Living in Keenesburg, Colorado. Lorene was born April 17, 1924 in Utica, Kansas to Paul and Helen (Jacobs) Younger. She grew up on their family farm north of Utica. On September, 11, 1944 she married Walter Pfannenstiel in Saint Anthony Catholic Church in Collyer, Kansas. Shortly after marrying, the couple purchased a combination gas station, vehicle repair garage and restaurant. Lorene managed the restaurant. During this time the newlyweds lived with Walter's parents in Quinter, Kansas. In 1949 Lorene and her family moved to a farm outside of Shields, Kansas. Six years later the family move to Cozad, Nebraska. Upon retiring the couple moved to Colorado to live closer to their six children. Lorene was an active member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad and the Altar Society. She also helped at the Blood Mobile when the organization held their Blood Drives. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and garden. Lorene's greatest pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory are her children; daughter Jeanie Swartz of Ft. Collins, CO, daughter Karen (Bob) Griffith of Littleton, CO, daughter Diana (Mike) Boland of Ridgway, CO, son Ken (Shelley) Pfannenstiel of Loveland, CO, son Rich (Denise) Pfannenstiel of Silver Spring, MD, daughter Bonnie (Lane) Jensen of Parker, CO; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brother Marvin Younger of Denver, CO and sister Millie Weyer of Auburn, WA. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 2 brothers, Paul and Harold Younger; 2 sisters, Viola Younger and Carol Snodgrass; and son-in-law, Bill Swartz. A memorial has been established in her memory. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30 am at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Mike Pampara as celebrant. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May 18, 2018 from 1pm to 7pm with Rosary being recited at 7pm at Berryman Funeral Home.
