Lynden L. Griese, age 71, of Cozad, NE passed away in Kearney, NE at Good Samaritan Hospital on April 29, 2023. He was born in Hoven, South Dakota on October 1, 1951 to LeRoy and Theresa Griese. They later move to Maxwell, NE and lived on the Pawnee Springs Ranch. In high school he played football, basketball and track. He graduated with the class of 1969. Lynden married Carolyn Bartruff on February 14, 1975 at the Eustis United Methodist Church. The couple was blessed with two children, Robert LeRoy and Tara Lynn. Lynden went on to work at Hunts Sand and Gravel and Bellamy Grain. He then owned his own truck and later worked for Nebraska Salt and Grain until his retirement. Lynden was the Past Exalted Ruler and longtime member at the Cozad Elks Lodge #2250. He was an avid bowler, played in men’s basketball and slow pitch softball leagues, and enjoyed playing in 3 v. 3 basketball tournaments. He was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church. Lynden’s most treasured times were spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn; his parents, LeRoy and Theresa Griese; his brother, Karl Griese; his sister, Jolene Griese; his father-in-law, Robert Bartruff; his brother-in-law, Reimund Loshonkohl; and a great niece, Haven Wang. Lynden is survived by a son, Bobby (Lea) Griese of Chadron; a daughter, Tara (Rock) Armagost of Cozad; a sister, Linda Twidwell of Rifle, Co; his mother-in-law, Evelyn Bartruff of Eustis; sister-in-laws Jean Loshonkohl of Eustis, Mari (Doug) Banzhaf of Eustis, Janell (Dave) Wetovick of Eustis; grandchildren, Rowen, Jove and Reid Griese, and Ryder and Ryker Armagost; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Marcus Kloepping officiating. Inurnment will follow at Eustis East Cemetery. Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 from 1 to 7 PM with family receiving friends from 5 to 7 PM at Berryman Funeral Home.
