Noreen D. Benjamin of Cozad passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at the Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 100. Her residence had been at Meadowlark Pointe in Cozad, Nebraska.
Noreen was born on her father's farm outside of Bennet, Nebraska on November 18, 1918. Her parents were Louis Baade and Alma Retzlaff Baade. She graduated from Hickman High School. On April 6, 1945, Noreen married Ralph O. Benjamin in Cozad, Nebraska. Noreen and Ralph had two children, Howard (Howdy) Benjamin and Kathryn (Kathy) Libal.
Noreen attended University of Nebraska in Lincoln and Kearney State Teachers College. She taught school for 26 years in several schools, Bradshaw, Callaway, Cozad Schools and several rural Cozad schools.
Noreen enjoyed her family, painting, cooking and baking, making pies and jelly, playing bridge and pinochle, Husker sports, especially football, quilting and sewing, travel, going for rides in the country, and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Cozad, Nebraska.
Noreen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph Benjamin; and two grandchildren, Shelby Libal and Jason Libal.
Survivors include her sisters, Emily Bellinghiere of Omaha, Velma Thompson and husband Melvin of Independence, MO, Claire Hohnstein of Omaha; brother, Don Baade and wife Myrna of Lincoln; son, Howard (Linda) Benjamin of Cozad; daughter, Kathy Libal (Jay Halligan) of Lexington; grandchildren, Ralph (Brenda) Benjamin of Lexington, Jessica Benjamin (Amy Wendling) of Omaha, Joe (Alexa) Libal of Gothenburg, Erin Libal (Tony Gill) of Omaha; and great grandchildren Colton, Braden, Brandon, Joel, Carlie, Bailey and Julian.
Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice or Meadowlark Pointe. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Services will be Monday, April 8, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jill Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be Sunday from 4 pm to 6 pm at Berryman Funeral Home.
