Patricia Ann Maguire

Patricia Ann Maguire, 86, of Kearney, NE peacefully passed away in her home, surrounded by family on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Pat was born on November 21, 1937, in Lexington, NE to Louis and Marie (Jolliffe) Lauby. She went to District-37, a one-room country schoolhouse, through 8th grade. She then attended Saint Pat’s High School in Sidney, NE, graduating in May of 1955. After high school, she received secondary education at Mt. St. Scholastica in Kansas. She then worked for two years at Lexington State Bank, a job she truly loved.

Pat married Rodney Swanson on September 3, 1958. Together they welcomed five children: Kevin Lee, Kristi Ann, Daniel Ray, Bryce Edward and Brooke Renee.

Through the years, Pat made many hand-pieced quilts, gifting them to her children and grandchildren. She later gifted hand embroidered sets of tea towels to all her children and stepchildren. Her crocheted bedspread was purple ribbon winner at Nebraska State Fair. Pat and Rod helped develop the Overton Golf Course, where they enjoyed playing many a round. Apart from being a full-time mom, she enjoyed many other activities including bridge clubs, gardening, canning, cooking, bowling, card games, trips to the casinos, scrolling through Facebook and spending time with her kitties Mabel and Lulu.

Pat was a baptized catholic, loved her Overton parish where she was very active. She taught Religious Education and was the Altar Society President for a time. Faith was a very important part of who Pat was, never faltering even after the loss of two sons, Daniel (1986) and Bryce (2022).

On September 18, 2001, Pat and Ed Maguire united in marriage. To this union she gained three stepchildren: Mike, Joe and Molly. Pat and Ed truly enjoyed an everlasting love. They played daily games of cards and Yahtzee, and enjoyed crossword puzzles, wood working, cooking, gardening and casinos. Rarely would you see one without the other. Remarkably, they both gained entrance to Heaven on October 11.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents, son Daniel, sister Marge, husband Ed, brother Eugene, son Bryce, and husband Rod.

Left to cherish her memory are her sister Karen (Dave) Green of Marana, AZ, brother-in-law Jim Cashman of Milton, FL, sister-in-law Bernie Lauby of Lexington. Children: Kevin (Kelly) Swanson of Overton, Kristi Shafer of Overton, Brooke Kohnen of Kearney and daughter-in-law Leah Swanson of Eddyville, Mike (Patti) Maguire of Lexington, Joe (Ruthie) Maguire of Lincoln, and Molly Maguire (Bill Honke) of Omaha. Grandchildren: Taylor (Kelley) Swanson, Jessica Shafer, Jared Shafer, Joel (Bailee) Shafer, Stacy Swanson, Tara Swanson, Kinzy (Brent) Carmody, Baley (Cooper) Davenport, Claire and Lauren Sorrell, Max (Malyssa) Maguire, Elliot Maguire, Michaela (Daniel) Page, Claire, Matthew and Ellie Maguire, Aidan and Liam Maguire. Great grandchildren: Ansley Swanson, Carson Hageman, Saige Swanson, Addison, Maxton and Hutchinson Carmody, Trux and Traylin Davenport, Jaxon and Willow Maguire, and Walter Page.
