Paul Sweeney, formerly of Cozad, passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 91. Paul was born March 2, 1930 at Lexington, Nebraska to Bradley and Verna Sweeney. He was the 7th of 8 children. He attended a one-room school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Cozad High School, Cozad, Nebraska in 1947. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in January 1949, where he served as a Photo Interpreter and spent 2 and ½ years in Japan. He was Honorably discharged in October 1952. In 1953 he entered employment in the U.S. Postal Service at the Cozad Post Office and served as a Letter Carrier until June 1979 and then transferred to the Scottsdale Arizona Post Office where he retired in 1985. He then was employed part time at a housing complex in Scottsdale, Arizona until his retirement in 2007. Paul was married to LaDonna Carpenter, February 28, 1954 and raised their four children Bill, Brian, Valorie and Brad. Paul was baptized into Christ at the Cozad Church of Christ and later joined the Scottsdale Christian Church, and since has been a faithful member of the West Olive Church of Christ, Peoria, Arizona. His parents, brothers Ray, Howard, Bill, Harold, and Ernie, his sisters Alene and Helen, and his wife LaDonna preceded him in death. He is survived by his son Bill (Sherene), Son Brian (Kathy), Daughter Valorie (Mike), Son Brad, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Betty Sweeney as well as many nieces and nephews.
