Richard Laverne Hansen of Cozad passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Cozad Community Hospital at the age of 88. He was born a tiny 3.5 pound premature baby on January 19, 1932 in Cozad, Nebraska to Anton E. and Alene A. (Osburn) Hansen. They lived in the Cozad area and several other Nebraska locations while his father pursued work during the depression. Dick attended all 12 years of school in Cozad district 11, other than a short time at Dawson Co. rural district 26. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1950, debated college, but delayed that decision anticipating being drafted. Dick was offered a job at First National Bank in Cozad where he began his banking career in October of 1950. He served there until his retirement in March of 1994, with exception of 2 years he spent with the US Army in Korea during the conflict. Dick was a member of the Cozad United Methodist Church. He was always available and delighted to be involved in many local celebrations and projects beneficial to Cozad. His lifelong interest in airplanes led him to building, flying, and competing with radio controlled model airplanes. he also enjoyed restoring and driving antique cars. Dick met Anne Gronewold of Gothenburg in early 1951. They continued with a 2 year flow of letters while Anne finished high school and he served in Korea. They were married on December 4, 1955. To this union were born 3 children, Lana Dee, Linda Kay and Lynn Marie. He, Anne and the girls, when possible, took numerous interesting trips to England, Scotland, Italy, and other close by countries in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, China and Canada. One of Dick and Anne's favorite trips was in 1990 when they shipped their small 1952 British MG roadster to England with a group of 88 cars of the same vintage. They drove 2500 miles from the Northern tip of Scotland to the Southern tip of England. Lana was able to join them for on week during their stay in Abingdon, England where all MG's were manufactured until 1980. Anne's death was just 90 days before their 50th anniversary. He was especially thankful for the support of his family, friends and special friend Bev Anderson. Dick was proud to have been born, raised and life long resident of Cozad. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Alene; his beloved wife, Anne; and his daughters, Linda, Lynn and Lana. Dick is survived by his cousins, Marty and Dan Wright of Cozad, Ardyce and Gene Dickey of Cozad and Dale and Donna Holbein of Lexington; close friends, Dail and LaVonne Vetter of Cozad; and extended family and friends.
