Richard 'Rick' Joe Allen

Richard J. 'Rick' Allen of Cozad passed away Sunday, January 23, 2022 at his home at the age of 74. Cremation was chosen. Rick was born in Lexington, Nebraska on September 29, 1947 to Fred and Verna (Snyder) Allen.  He graduated from Lexington High School in 1965 and then attended Milford Tech. Rick was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, MaryLou (Petersen/Ballmer) and his companion Twila Smith.  Rick is survived by his sisters, Janet (Joe) Olmstead of Lincoln, Lori (Dennis) Wallace of Lexington,  Linda (Mike) Warner of Lexington, Brother-in-laws Buss (Carolyn) Biehl and Kelly Petersen, both of Kearney, Stepchildren, Sandy Wenburg of Dundee, Michigan, Marsha (John) Neill of Omaha, Nebraska and Roger (Tracie) Ballmer of Omaha, Nebraska, three daughters by his first marriage, Amy (Adam) Cedarlind of Lincoln, Jennifer (Dr. James) Vukonich of Lincoln/Fremont, Nebraska and Cassie Freshour of Villisca, Iowa, 17 grandchildren, 18  great-grandchildren, close friends, Penny and Kent Bartlett, many nieces, nephews and friends.  Rick loved playing cards, reading, learning history, and enjoying all the summer visits with his and MaryLou’s grandchildren on the farm in Lexington.  Rick was a past EMT for the Cozad Volunteer Fire Department and loved helping other people. Rick’s hobbies were collecting old cars, motorcycles and guns. 

A memorial service will be held at Berryman Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Doug Gahn officiating. Memorials may be directed to the Cozad Fire Department.
