Robert G. Collins Jr. of Gothenburg passed away October 24, 2021 at Bryan East Hospital in Lincoln at the age of 50. Bob grew up in Nebraska. His first 5 years of school were in North Platte, he went to school in the country near Willow Island, then in Junior High, lived in Minden, 8th and 9th grade were in Kearney, and High School was in North Platte. He went to Mid Plains Voc Tech for a year for their Electronic course, then after he worked and learned more electronics on his own and with God's grace he became a Journeyman Electrician. He traveled several states from Philadelphia, PA, mostly here in Nebraska, to the beautiful mountains of Colorado, became more adventurous in South Dakota and took the zip lines. He also went to the Philippines three times to see his fiancé and now wife Carmelita and daughter Ericka. He was married to Carmelita for 7 years but they have known each since 2009. Bob was more than just a friend, son, dad and husband, he was a problem solver. You could tell him all about your issues no matter what they were and he would give you an answer even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. If it was a problem he could fix then you needed to strap yourself in because he would. He didn’t just fix things easily either, he fixed them with a degree of complexity few people are capable of. This also meant that if it broke again you had to go back to Bob, but that was never his intention he just wanted everyone he helped have the best for the least. Bob had a servant's heart and Bob cared deeply for his friends. Those of us who called Bob our friend knew a man who was kind, considerate, selfless, and wickedly intelligent but never talked down to you for not understanding but would teach you instead because Bob valued his friendships greatly. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Survivors include his wife Carmelita Collins and daughter Ericka of Gothenburg; mother, Karen Ward of Cozad; sister, Tina Ward of Cozad; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. Memorials are suggested to the family in his name for later designation. Services will be Thursday, October 28, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Father Tim Stoner officiating. Burial will follow at Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
