Roger Gerdes, 76, of Cozad passed away on April 3, 2025. He was born on January 21, 1949 to Orville and Lavone (Trimble) Gerdes in Lexington, Nebraska. Roger was known for his sociable nature and innate ability to make everyone around him smile. He was a beloved father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather who cherished spending quality time with his family.
Roger married Diana Perkins from Hastings, Nebraska on October 26, 1967, and during their marriage had two daughters, Dena and Jessica who were the light of his life along with his three grandsons, Kody, Dakota and Devin, his granddaughter Alexis and his great grandson Jaxson.
Roger worked many years at Nebraska Plastics and then later opened his own business, Rogers Sporting Good, south of Cozad, where he also raised hogs, chickens, geese, and turkeys. After his retirement he helped his brother Kenny with his furniture business in Cozad. Roger was very active in his church and his faith in God was relentless
He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, Dena, talking about life and sitting out on her back deck drinking tea and watching the birds and squirrels, as well as giving her tips on gardening. He attended every one of his grandsons sporting events from grade school thru high school and was a proud grandpa when his oldest grandson joined the military. He was proud to see each one of his grandchildren further their educations and nothing made him happier than time spent with them.
He enjoyed fishing with his daughter Jessica and sharing stories of times gone by and seeing who could catch the most fish.
Roger was was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Kenneth and Orville (LeRoy). He is survived by his two daughters, Dena (Joshua) of Cozad Ne, Jessica (Darren) of Grand Island , Ne; his grandchildren, Kody of Friend, Ne, Dakota of North Platte, Ne, Devin of Lincoln, Ne, Alexis of Grand Island, Ne; one great grandson, Jaxson of Grand Island, Ne; his Sister Connie of Friend, Ne; and his brother Dallas (Becky) of Oconto, Ne; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Roger was the kind that would give you the last dollar he had and the shirt off of his back. He loved God and worshipped too many people during his life. If you needed prayer, he was the one to call because no matter what he was doing he would stop right there and pray with / for you. His love, kindness, humor and generosity will be deeply missed but his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him.
