Russell Dean Tunison

Russell D. Tunison of Cozad passed away Friday, December 4, 2020 at the age of 62. Russell was born March 15, 1958 in Gothenburg, Nebraska to Sylvester and Mabel (Cloyd) Tunison. He grew up in Gothenburg but moved to Cozad with his family in 1976. Russell graduated from Cozad High School. In May of 1977, he started working at Monroe Auto, until the plant closed in 2011. In December of 1982, Russell was blessed with a daughter, Chasity. He married Danielle on August 3, 1985, and gained two more children, which they raised together. Russell loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He loved being a "Papa" and telling everyone about his grandchildren. Russell was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Violet Hayes and brother, LeRoy Tunison. Survivors include his wife Danielle; children, Chasity (Scott) Knoles of Grant, Tonya (Jeremy) Smith of Lexington and Julius (Kate) Chavez of Kearney; 11 grandchildren; brother, Frank (Patricia) Tunison of Cozad; sister, Lorene Parsons of Cozad; and a host of extended family members and friends.

Memorials are suggested to the family in his name for later designation. Cremation was chosen. A memorial service will be held Friday, December 11, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Brent Graves officiating. Face coverings are recommended but not required during funeral services and visitation. We urge attendees to follow recommended healthy habits such as social distancing, hand hygiene, covering cough and sneezes, etc. As an extra layer of precaution for those we serve, as well as our staff, we encourage people who are ill or who are part of an at-risk population (e.g., the elderly, immune-compromised, etc.) to stay home.
