Salvador Reyes of El Paso, Texas passed away August 5, 2022 at the Hospitals of Providence in El Paso, Texas at the age of 85. Salvador was born December 15, 1936 at Delagua, Colorado to Francisco and Leonor (Luviano) Reyes.
He attended school in Lexington, Nebraska and joined the U.S. Army in November of 1954. He enjoyed his travels across Europe during his years of service. After his discharge in October in 1957 he received his GED and attended Milford Tech School and later Mid Plains College where he received an Associate degree.
Salvador was self employed in building and construction most of his life, especially in the Lexington and Cozad areas. He did a lot of work for Hi Gain Feedlot in the 1980's. He would check in at the local lumber yards for small jobs and was the favorite carpenter of many family members.
Salvador never married and had no children. He lived in Cozad since 1981 and could be seen walking everywhere he went or spending time at the library. He was an avid reader and interested in many different subjects. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings and their children. His nieces and nephews always enjoyed their conversations with Uncle Sal, and especially loved his sense of humor.
He retired to El Paso in 2007 and loved it when family and friends came to visit. He would take them around El Paso to see the sites, including the library where he spent many hours!
He was a member of the VFW and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lexington, Nebraska.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 7 brothers, Mike, Frank, Lupe, Joe, Leo, Lupe and Ruben; 4 sisters, Beatrice Gomez, Amalia Canas, Rosemary Vasquez and Molly Reyes. He is survived by a sister, Emilia (Tom) Hernandez of Kearney; 2 brothers, Ben Reyes of Kearney and Gilbert of MN; sister-in-law, Josie Reyes of Grand Island and brother-in-law, David Canas of Cozad; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Cremation was chosen. Memorials are suggested to the Wilson Public Library in Cozad, NE. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 16, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad, NE with Father Mike Pampara officiating. Burial at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, NE will be at 11:00 a.m. Berryman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
