Sarah Henderson McGinnis, age 55, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at her sister's home in Olathe, Kansas at the age of 55. She had been battling Multiple-Sclerosis for the last few years. She was born November 23, 1963 in Nebraska City to Howard and Joell (Henderson) McGinnis, and grew up in Cozad, Nebraska. After graduating from Cozad High School, she attended Kearney State College, and spent some time in Europe, living in France for two years. Eventually settling in Denver, Colorado, Sarah married Manuel Cabral on St. Patrick's Day in 1996. They spent 12 years together, and though they did part ways, they remained best friends up until her death. Her creativity and passion for antiquities led Sarah to become an accomplished upholsterer and furniture refinisher. She collected all manner of beautiful fabrics for her projects, and learned to work with leather and exotic hides. She enjoyed knitting and sewing, and was making plans to teach a leather sewing class at a long-standing quilting store in Kansas City before her passing. She adored her cats. She was an avid reader of history, especially of Britain and France. She appreciated all manner of creativity, from fashion, to art, to opera. She was very fond of gardening and planting exotic flowers. She was always looking for new recipes to cook, along with the extra-special ingredients she needed to use in them. Sarah had a love for life, and will always be remembered for her steadfast perseverance, even when the chips were down. She was quick to laugh, and ever at the ready with a joke. She was a great story teller who could paint a picture with her words. She always wanted to help people - her friends and family were very important to her. A devout Catholic, Sarah attended Mass every week at the Denver Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception while she lived in Colorado. Her faith helped her through the struggles she faced. She was preceded in death by her father, Howard McGinnis. She is survived by her mother, Joell McGinnis of Cozad; brother, Paul McGinnis and his wife Lori of Cozad; sister, Amy Swartz and her husband Jeff of Olathe, KS; nephews, Adam McGinnis and Aiden Swartz; and her niece, Margaret McGinnis.
