Julia A. ‘Judy’ Evans of Cozad passed away Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg at the age of 93. Judy was born April 25, 1929 at Lexington, Nebraska to George and Leta (Wilson) Kloepping. She graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1947. Judy married Gale Evans in May of 1949. Their union was blessed with 3 children, Ronald, David and Cheryl. The couple moved to Cozad and opened Gale’s Pastry Shop, which later turned into Evan’s Bakery. Judy was part owner of the bakery for over 40 years. She worked at the Lexington Telephone Company, Walmart and Service Drug. Judy was the secretary for the Cozad Chamber of Commerce and was active with every business, she also volunteered at the United Methodist Thrift Shop. Judy loved Christmas. She shopped early (lots of gifts for everyone) and wrapped all of the gifts herself. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Everyone loved her angel food cake, it was a hit at every social gathering. She enjoyed golfing, league bowling, solitaire, and was an avid Husker fan. Judy was involved with Eastern Star, Job’s Daughters, Cozad DOES, and the Cozad United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Odessa Kjar; brother in law, Paul Kjar; and grandson, Mark Evans. Survivors include her children, Ron (Betty) Evans of Grand Island, David (Jennifer) Evans of CO and Cheryl (Randy) Hock of Cozad; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Louisa) Evans of Grand Island, Vincent (Tami) Evans of PA, Ted (Heather) Evans of Grand Island, Amber Evans of Lincoln, Jennifer Evans of Lincoln, R.J. (Melinda) Hock of KS, Katy (Aaron) Bentley of CO, Saranne (Brent) Vogt of Unidilla, Laura Beth (Blake McNeal) Hock of Elmwood; 27 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and extended family. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Online condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church. Memorial book signing, with family present, will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home.
